The 3rd program in the Library's "Just Say Know"
series was held on Thursday, 8/16/12 at the
Stanford House Senior Citizen Center
in Gainesville. The topic of the
program was Veterans' Benefits. Some
of the topics covered were reverse mortgages,
homelessness, medical benefits, widow benefits
and burial benefits. There was a variety
of knowledgeable presenters who
spoke and answered questions on these
and other topics. For more information on

County Veterans Service office.

The Denton Community Theatre Roadshow
performed "Get a Clue... at the Library"
for us on Thursday, 8/2/12. They brought
books to life in their performance!
We learned some sign language,
& some of us even performed.

On Thursday, 7/12/12, Ringling Brothers &
Barnum & Bailey Circus sent
Slappy & Monday, Embassadors of Laughter.
These wonderful clowns entertained
the residents of Cooke County.
The event was held at
the State Theater, due
to previous years success.
There were over 200 attendees.

Electric for lending us the space!
This special experience brought
lots of laughter & happy faces!
On Friday, 1/13/12, over 40 people of
different ages were treated to a special program.
Author, Gary Holthaus & musician, Lauren Pelon
shared "The Story of Music, Stories From Home".
This program was full& of music & spoken word.
Folks were exposed to a variety
of musical instruments & readings.
There was a question & answer session
afterwards for the attendees.
This special performance was a project between
Picaresque II, 4 other Texas Public Libraries &
the Cooke County Library.
This program was made possible in part
with a grant for Humanities Texas, the
state affiliate of the National Endowment
for the Humanities.






On 7/27/11, author Anastasia Suen
taught a "Writing Comic Workshop"
to 10 teens who attended.
They learned how to
think & write for a comic
or graphic book. She
taught them theory &
explained basics about
visuals. They looked
at a variety of websites
that allow comics to
be created.

This program was made possible
with a grant from the
Dollar General Youth Literacy Progam.



On 3/25/11, the preschool
kids at St. Mary's Catholic
School were visited by
Ms. LaDean, Children/Young
Adult Coordinator.
She presented a storyhour,
with 2 stories, one
about lost treasure &
the other about snow angels.




On 7/2/10, Ringling Brothers &
Barnum Bailey Circus sent
Kelly the Embassador of laughter
to entertain the residents
of Cooke County.
The event was held at the
Butterfield Stage Theater again,
due to last year's success.
There were over 200 attendees.
Lots of laughs & happy faces!
On Saturday, 6/12/10 local author,
Linda Pope Bingham came to
Cooke County Library & signed
books in her Windbreak series.
In the two hours of her visit,
she had 23 guests.
On Thursday, 4/1/10 or April Fool's Day,
over 150 residents of Cooke County
were given a "foolish" treat.
Actor, Kurt Sutton performed his one man
show, "An Evening With Mark Twain".
Readings by Twain were heard & singing
of a variety of songs was done by all.
This special performance was a joint project
between the Butterfield Stage Players &
the Cooke County Library.
This program was made possible in part
with a grant for Humanities Texas, the
state affiliate of the National Endowment
for the Humanities.
On Friday 12/11/09, local historian Shana Powell
presented her program, "Tales of Camp Howze".
There were 35 people who attended this event.
This program was done in conjunction with
the "Held in the Homefront: German POWS
in the Midwest, 1943-1946" exhibit. This
traveling exhibit was in Gainesville
on Tuesday 12/15/09. Over 130 people
visited this special Bus-eum to
see this exhibit.

On 10/29/09, children's author Rooster Morris
visited with the children of Cooke County Library.
He played his electric fiddle, sang songs
with us & acted out part of his book.
We had a great time!
On 8/11/09, Christian & mystery author
Terrye Robbins came to the library.
She spoke to a small group
about her Paradise mystery series.
On 6/8/09, Ringling Brothers &
Barnum Bailey Circus sent
2 of their clowns, David & Cherie
to entertain the residents
of the Cooke County Library.
Because last year was such a
success, the event was held at the
Butterfield Stage Players Theatre.
There were over 200 attendees.
Many laughs & happy faces!
On 6/26/08 at 3 pm, Ringling Brothers &
Barnum Bailey Circus sent
2 of their clowns, Slappy & Monday
to entertain the patrons.
There were over 175 attendees.
And lots of laughter &
smiles!
On 2/27/08 at Butterfield Stage Playhouse,
the Cooke County Library in conjunction with
Extraordinary Stories presented
"Riders on the Orphan Train"

(This program was made possible inpart with a grant from Humanities Texas,
the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities,
Sarah's on the Square, Tom Thumb Food and Pharmacy,
and The Weekly News of Cooke County.)

There were 75 people in attendance for this performance.
Performers Alison Moore and Phil Lancaster
treated the attendees to a number of songs about the Orphan Train,
a reading from an upcoming historical fiction book written by Alison Moore,
and a historical video presentation. A question & answer
session was held afterwards.

Leaping Beauty and other Animal Fairy Tales by Gregory Maguire
Professor Thom Talbot and 9 students,
from a NCTC Drama class,
came and performed 2 "fractured" fairy tales for
an audience of 50 children and adults.
